Bathroom Eureka!

So I had a realization about my bathroom today. It’s so tiny and cramped, and there’s not a lot I can do about it because it’s all like, plumbing and physical space, so as far as decorating, there’s only so much I can do in there before it starts to feel claustrophobic.

I have a vintage pink toilet installed, that I bought from Facebook marketplace when someone’s grandma died so they were selling her house and all the vintage bathroom fixtures. I also have the matching pink asymmetrical sink that still needs to be installed. I would have bought the matching tub too, but it was like 2 inches too long for my space. 😒

The sink pic at the top of this post is from Facebook marketplace. After I have the fan/ventilation fixed, the floors replaced (weak due to severe water damage) and trim put on, I’ll have the design centre in town build me a custom vanity with some sort of white, sparkly counter top. But that gets done absolutely last.

Obviously with pink fixtures, the bathroom has to have a pink aesthetic. (Quelle surprise! 😂🩷) But that wasn’t today’s realization. Today the vision became so much clearer and some of it is doable immediately!

(As an aside the little thing hanging in the toilet is a motion sensor that made multicoloured party lights start up, but it kept getting knocked into the toilet until it finally stopped working. 🎺 I still might get another because it was pretty cool while it lasted!)

My shower curtain is currently one of my girls sitting in a tub with a magenta streak through her hair, and bright pink skull and flower patterned wallpaper behind her, so I thought my colour palette – after the bathroom was finished – was going to be white, aqua and bright pink, if not magenta to also match a piece of very Canadian art I bought at Kempenfest a few years ago and hung in there.

My current shower curtain one of my girls sitting in a tub with a magenta streak through her hair, and bright pink skull and flower patterned wallpaper behind her. It was from my Threadless shop circa 2021 when the house officially became mine and mine alone. Even with my shop discount, I think it cost me $70 US (almost $100 Canadian), which is a lot of money for a shower curtain in my opinion, but it had my art on it! So I sort of saw it as an investment in my future bathroom that I could enjoy now.

I thought with such a huge, custom piece of art – the shower curtain itself – taking up so much of the visual space and being reflected by a huge mirror directly in font of it, that everything else had to match it.

Thinking my colour palette was going to be magenta, aqua, and light pink – to also match a small piece of very Canadian art I bought at a festival a few years ago – I bought a magenta towel set and accessorized a tiny bit with aqua accents, just to make the best of a seriously uncute bathroom situation for the time being.

Today while on Amazon ordering some Christmas gifts, I searched for “pink Christmas shower curtain” on a whim, just to see what was available. Thinking all shower curtains were $100 because mine was, I was shocked to find a million of them for as low as $20! 🤯 Then I wondered if all seasonal shower curtains were reasonably priced, so I searched Valentine’s Day and Halloween, and found that they were!

So it occurred to me that if I painted the walls and ceiling the same pink-toned white I used in my bedroom, and just kept swapping out various pink shower curtains, bathroom accessories and wall art seasonally or sporadically, the bathroom could be hella cute and I get to redecorate it every few months! Like unpacking Christmas ornaments and rediscovering them because you don’t see them every day!

Even better is that I think if I fix the fan in there myself, I can do that before the bathroom’s been renovated! All it really needs is some relatively neutral pink paint! 🩷🖌️🫟😊👌

The counter won’t be pretty, the pink sink won’t be installed, and the room won’t have any trim, but whatever! I can also live with the fact the walls are covered in panelling! It doesn’t bother me and it’s paintable! 🙌

So, that’s what’s been in my busy little brain today!

Oh Look, An Update!
